After the G20 invitation controversy, Big B's "Bharat Mata" Post Divides the Internet

Mumbai: Today's internet debate was sparked by a message by Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, which social media users connected to the most recent political controversy over an invitation to the G20 dinner.

This afternoon, Mr. Bachchan commented on X, formerly Twitter, "Bharat Mata Ki Jai (victory to Mother India)" in response to criticism from the opposition over the dinner invitation that included the phrase "President of Bharat".

This phrase has never been used in place of the conventional "President of India" in a formal invitation. According to officials, this is the first formal event to use such a modification in Indian nomenclature.

Taking sides in what has become the newest flashpoint between the center and opposition camp, some remarked "Bharat" while others wrote "India" under BigB's post.

Officials noted that the Constitution uses the word "Bharat" once. The Constitution states in Article 1 that "India, that is, Bharat, shall be a Union of States."

The invitation was addressed to chief ministers and foreign dignitaries attending the weekend G20 summit in Delhi by president Droupadi Murmu. In addition to other world leaders, the big event will include US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

This led to a verbal battle between the BJP and the opposition parties, who contested the necessity of the name change.

One of the tallest actors in Indian cinema is Mr. Bachchan, commonly known as BigB. His wife Jaya Bachchan is an MP for the Samajwadi Party and a well-known representative of the rival coalition, which is now known as INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).
